Tall Dog Gates

Another common type is the pressure mounted gate, which has mechanism such that when pressed against the wall or door on both sides, it stands erect by itself and requires absolutely no tools for installation. Given the fact that these dog gates only use pressure created from sides, they are very often unstable and should not be used for blocking staircases. However, these dog gates are portable and can be removed and installed easily in several places.

While either of the two types can be used anywhere in the house, care should be taken when choosing dog gates for a stairway. Dog gates for a stairway should ideally be hardware mounted with a built in swing top mechanism that restricts the gate from swinging out. However, it should be ensured that there are no horizontal bars at the bottom of these tall dog gates as the bars can cause you or the dog to trip when crossing over to the other side.
